Letters to Jory

Inspired by love, Motivated by legacy

Letter #13 - The Mother's Day Letter

Mothers Day.

A very special day Jor.

Its super important that you are aware of that.

You’re in a phase where everything is about Superheroes, Power Rangers, Avengers, Iron Man, Hulk, and The Black Panther.

But there is another group of superheroes that I want you to know about, they look super ordinary and they seem underwhelming, but I promise you these are the superheroes of all superheroes, in fact all your favorite superheroes think this superhero is THEIR superhero.

You’ve had one next to you all along and I have been lucky to have two.

This superhero has a really cool name too……..

…..Mommy.

I’m going to tell you about yours.

Pay attention and make sure that no matter where life takes you or if anything were to ever happen to me, that you remember that I expect you to love and take care of your hero.

You promise me that you will always take care of your mommy.

Your mom is a great woman.

I have told you in previous letters that we were two very different people and we both knew deep down things between us where never going to work, but this letter isn’t about your mom and I,...this letter is about her...and how heroic she is...and how incredibly lucky you are to have her.

I met your mom at the peak of my 20’s, she was then and she still is, an incredibly hard worker. She has never complained about working and doing her upmost to be able to give you everything a 4 year old little boy could ever want.
I have seen her sacrifice her own person comforts and material possessions to get you toys, clothes, snacks, or to take you to places that she knows would light up your face and make your day.

I have watched her personally sacrifice to make sure memories full of joy and happiness were engrained into your childhood.

I have seen your mother sacrifice her teeny tiny body to bring you into this world.

When I met your mother I could pick her up with one arm, I used to give her hugs really softly because I was afraid to break her.

You were almost 10 pounds and kiddo, you have a massive head, and your mommy heroically sacrificed her body for you.

I watched her sacrifice her mental strength for almost a year as she suffered through postpartum, for you.

I never once heard her complain about you.

I never once heard her express regret or disappointment for what she had to give up to give you life.

I’ve watched your mommy fall in love with you each time she looked at you.

I have been there as your mommy taught you to crawl, as she taught you to walk, as she taught you to run.

I watched you mommy teach you to talk and teach you manners. I am always so proud that people point out how well-mannered you are with your “Please” and “Thank you.”

I was there to see your mommy teach you to ride a wagon, and tricycle and a scooter.

I saw your mommy deny expensive clothes and fancy purses in order to get you the best quality clothing and as much of it as you needed.

I have seen your mommy’s food go cold and then watched her drift asleep after making sure you ate well and got laid down properly.

I’ve seen your mommy cry because she feared not being able to give you the life she wants for you.

I have seen your mommy give you every part of herself and love you in a way that only a mother can love a little boy.

Your mom and I both love you and strive to give you everything you could ever want and need, but Jory, you need to know, that although things didn’t work between her and I, she is the very superhero for you.

She is the perfect superhero to save your day and save your life that anyone could have picked, myself included.

Your mom is a spectacular person.

Your mom is a phenomenal mother.

Your mom is the very reason you have a happy childhood.

Your mom is a hero..

..For you, for me, for a lot of people.

There will be times that you get frustrated with your mom, there will be times that you get angry with your mom, there will be times that she will get angry with you and you will tell her that she’s ruining your life, but Jor, don’t ever tell your mother that you don’t love her. There is no one on this planet that has demonstrated that love and dedication to you more than your mother, and her body beautifully carries the scars that will forever remind her and you of her complete and total love for you.

You live among heroes.

The biggest superhero being your mommy.

Love her, take care of her, treat her right. Fill her life with hugs and kisses. Be her best friend, protect her, admire her, and above all, respect her.

There will come a day when you will impact the world for the better and you will experience immense success in every facet of life, and I want you to know now, that it will be directly because of what your mother has given up and sacrificed, for you. For that, I expect you to be grateful to her and love her. As I am and do. I will always be a friend to your mother and support her in her dedication to you, I expect the same from you.

As Mother’s Day passes and as it comes again every year, may you remember that the good man you are going to be and the leader you are expected to become…

… is because of you mother.

I love you booger, I have loved you all my life.

Be a good boy and always do good listening.

I love you 3000.

-Dad
